A few weeks ago, I wrote a One Year Vision for myself – a summary of the goals that I need to achieve, to become the person I wanted to be a year from now. Goals like getting back in shape, improving specific weak spots as a software engineer…
But one important goal was also to update my website. A few reasons behind this…
Personal Blog
The site overhaul allowed me to write a custom blog system, where I could write about what’s been on my mind. Whether anyone reads my posts is beside the point (although I’m sure there will be some people checking in periodically). It’ll be a good place for me to translate my thoughts into words, and for my occasional visitors to know me better.
Educational Work
Between serving as a head TA, tutoring dozens of students both in high school and college, and preparing students for technical interviews, I’ve realized that I love teaching, and more importantly, that I’m good at it. The long-term vision is to start doing video tutorials for Data Structures and Algorithms and Technical Interview Prep – these have always been my specialties, and I want to help more than just the people I can make the time for in-person.
This site will serve as a place for me to further my educational work. I still have weeks of planning and work to do, but this is a goal I’ve been pursuing for a while now, and I finally have the time to make it possible.
So, I spent a few days overhauling brianlam.me and rewriting it in PHP Laravel.
I haven’t slept much the past few days. I’m not sure what my future holds, but I’m excited to push forward.
